DNA vs. the Book of Mormon

For more than 170 years The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has declared The Book of Mormon to be a scriptural and literal history. Subtitled “Another Testament of Jesus Christ,” it recounts the story of an Israelite family who immigrated to and fully populated the American Continents. Jesus, after His death and resurrection, is said to have visited this once great Israelite civilization existing in the Americas. The Book of Mormon teaches that these Israelites are the principal ancestors of modern-day Native Americans. New discoveries in DNA research currently allow scientists to test this historical claim. Thousands of Native Americans from more than 150 tribes have been tested to determine their ancestry. Mormonism’s founding prophet, Joseph Smith, once said, “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion…” Now the same DNA evidence used in courts of law can credibly speak to the validity of The Book of Mormon, which serves as the foundation of the Mormon religion. The evidence answers one basic question: Are Israelites the principal ancestors of Native America? The scholars and scientists in this vid don’t take into account the Great Mutation, which took place at around 1100 AD. That’s when the DNA of native American Indians started to diverge drastically from that of their Israelite ancestors.

@hammer7629 Yup ^_^ Believe me, Hammer, the LDS church knows the bible as well as the Book of Mormon. We could toss scriptures back and forth, but eventually we would run out of scriptures to back us up, when it comes to the Bible. But I would have more scriptures to back me up from the B.O.M. which is why there IS the Book of Mormon…to AFFIRM what the bible teaches. Read it, it’ll be a great experience.

@hammer7629 I’m glad that you’re faith is that strong. Keep with it. Also, you should watch “DNA Evidence of the Book of Mormon” because it totally blows this vid out of the water. It’s hard to NOT believe the accuracy of the Book of Mormon after you watch it, lol.

Another Video about The Book of Mormon is called “DNA Evidence of The Book of Mormon”. It totally blows this video out of the water. Sorry, all you guys that left the church over this…but it’s time to come back now. Evidence that is more accurate than this, is out. Look it up and see for yourselves. Don’t say you weren’t given EVERY opportunity to find the truth. I luve you all! ^_^

This is a good video to show how the leaders and followers of mormonism can be dangerous to a society. THEY ARE DENYING DNA HISTORICAL RESEARCH THAT SHOWS THE TRUTH OF THE ORIGINS OF A PEOPLE (NATIVE AMERICANS) AND REWRITING HISTORY (which is very dangerous)!

@LDStothecore
“He never, never had a false prophecy!!!”
O really? There are many; but I’ll start with D. & C. 84:1-5.

Where is the temple?

No temple in that generation = False prophecy

8 LDStothecore { 07.02.10 at 12:23 pm }

@hammer7629 He never, never had a false prophecy!!!

@LDStothecore
“I have tested this for many years and I know Joseph was God’s prophet.”
What test did you use? Would you agree a prophet of God cannot deliver false prophecy?

@hammer7629 If you can’t humble yourself you will never know. I feel sorry for you.

@hammer7629 DNA is not proved. The Holy Ghost I depend upon is the only one there is. Do you or can you say you know how the Holy Ghost works? I have tested this for many years and I know Joseph was God’s prophet.

@LDStothecore
“They have no proof against the Book of Mormon”. That is hilarious. Challenging someone to prove a negative is a joke.

It would be like you stating Santa Claus is real and being challenged to prove he isn’t.
It would be the same as you stating the Easter Bunny is true and being challenged to prove he isn’t.

A person who has done research should be able to list a few reasons Joseph Smith is a prophet !

Using the Bible, would you be willing to examine the claim that Joseph Smith is a prophet according to book of Deut. or will you hide behind your “testimony”. We are admonished to test the spirits….can your “Holy Ghost” stand up to a biblical test?

14 LDStothecore { 07.02.10 at 3:59 pm }

@hammer7629 I don’t have a list, but I know Joseph was a true prophet, by the Holy Ghost.

15 hammer7629 { 07.02.10 at 4:49 pm }

@LDStothecore
There must be some basic standard to judge whether a person is a prophet of God, otherwise anyone can make that claim. How about applying the Biblical standard and list your top five reasons JS is a prophet. After all, you say you’ve done your research.

Seriously, how is ANY of this (including mainstream Christianity) any less cooky than anything else, including those DC-8s that L. Ron Hubbard said Xenu used to bring humanity to Earth? Grow up, kiddies…

Second Nephi 1:8 is pretty damning to most current Mormon apologists’ explanation of this DNA evidence. Micheal Whiting, in the Mormon response to this video, says that Lehi’s family “didn’t arrive at a genetic island,” but that “they were arriving at a great sea of genetic signatures.” So, either the Book of Mormon is wrong OR the Book of Mormon is wrong.

17:50 no archeological evidence connecting central america to the hebrews. because after all, its not like there is something big and obvious like a pyramid or something.

@jeanniemarie76 I’m a Latter-day Saint but through honest research concluded that Joseph Smith was a complete hoax

I’ve seen how people can actually be happy even with an inauthentic faith and incomplete knowledge of the truth. It’s nice to simply believe but as adults we’re obligated to employ the powers of discernment.

When our leaders tell us to read only approved Church text that’s a serious red flag that they are trying to keep us from the truth

I’m Justa: Pro-truth Latter-day Saint

There’s a reason why the church tells you to never search outside of their authorized teachings. Read the Bible, the book that is completely backed by archaeological evidence. Doesn’t take much to find truth.

21 LDStothecore { 07.02.10 at 8:09 pm }

@tamblyn11 You are so comical. You antis always say we should do our research. Personally, I have and I know more than ever that Joseph was God’s prophet. Have you done your research? Doubtful.

22 LDStothecore { 07.02.10 at 8:45 pm }

@plutogirllovekj You people are unbelievable. Just because we believe something, automatically you say we are brainwashed. That’s garbage. Maybe you are brainwashed.

23 tamblyn11 { 07.02.10 at 9:06 pm }

@LDStothecore You KNOW this? What are they teaching you in the LDS church? I realize your reply will be like I wrote to a wall (brainwashing).

24 tamblyn11 { 07.02.10 at 9:55 pm }

@LDStothecore , You know nothing about Joseph Smith, It’s sad. He’s probably the most evil person in American history, and YOU support him though brain washing. But before you try to save face, do something you should have done before you got involved in this discussion: go back and do the research yourself.

Mitochondrial DNA has proved a marvelous tool for tracing human history. Mothers pass it down to offspring almost intact—unlike nuclear DNA, the genetic material commonly used in criminal investigations (”Haven’t Got a Clue? Maybe DNA Will Do,” U.S. News & World Report, July 24, 2000).
The problem for Mormonism is that mitochondrial DNA supports the view that the principal ancestors of Native Americans were people from eastern Asia.
